Outdoors workers are needed in many areas to keep and improve infrastructure in cities. This is an example of outdoors cleaning in cities. #CityManagement #WasteManagement
Discussion: Cities have employees or outsource these services. Find out how it is done in your community. What Sustainable Development Goals are covered with this kind of work? Share your findings. Add links or videos.

When natural disaster struck be it in Mexico, Sri Lanka, Haiti, Ecuador, or the Philippines and humanitarian response was needed, #Scouts were among the #VolunteersActFirst to help the community.
Scouts from BSA Troop 182 in Jacksonville, Florida collected donations for Hurricane Maria’s victims in Puerto Rico. Scouts in Puerto Rico also helped in disaster relief after hurricane destroyed the island.

Problem-based learning (PBL) is integrated at Two Rivers Public Charter School in Washington, DC, at every grade level—pre-K through eighth grade. Students are presented with a real-world problem, undertake a series of investigations, and create a product that they present to an authentic audience as part of the Expeditionary Learning (EL) Education framework.
PBL enables the school to reach all learners. “There are multiple entry points,” explains Julia Tomasko, a fourth-grade teacher. “It’s easy to scaffold [PBL] for students who need more support, and the sky’s the limit for extensions.”

The classroom moved! If you want students to learn about buildings and cities in the roman era…to see them first hand is probably better, especially if you have one around the corner. – João Armando Gonçalves
(PT) Para aprender como eram os edifícios e cidades na era romana nada como ter contacto direto com os seus vestígios. Principalmente se estiverem “ao virar da esquina” [Local muito recomendável] #education#TheLifeBeyond

Discussion: How cities are preserving and restoring their historic neighborhoods and downtown? What are important actions made to collaborate with the #GlobalGoals? Specifically #SDG11. Search and share examples about other cities and communities? #CityManagement #GlobalManagement
Assignment: Select a city in the US or another country (You can pick a city in a country you are currently researching). How this city is preserving, restoring and developing business activities in their historic neighborhoods and downtown? What are important actions made to collaborate with the #GlobalGoals? Specifically #SDG11. Compare and contrast with actions taking in Downtown Jacksonville? How these global ideas can be or not implemented in our city? #InternationalBusinessManagement
Cities are hubs for ideas, commerce, culture, science, productivity, social development and much more. At their best, cities have enabled people to advance socially and economically.
However, many challenges exist to maintaining cities in a way that continues to create jobs and prosperity while not straining land and resources. Common urban challenges include congestion, lack of funds to provide basic services, a shortage of adequate housing and declining infrastructure.
The challenges cities face can be overcome in ways that allow them to continue to thrive and grow, while improving resource use and reducing pollution and poverty. The future we want includes cities of opportunities for all, with access to basic services, energy, housing, transportation and more.
Reblogging the first post that initiated this idea and project. The University is Outdoors.
Learning moments and activities outside the classroom. Resources for outdoors learners. The university is outdoors. This is our latest project based on many teachable moments found during our trips and outdoors activities. We want to share what the communities are doing to teach their citizens about the environment, energy, information systems, and technologies. Jun 30, 2014.
Scouts learned during 2015 World Scout Jamboree how Japan handle their recyclables. Troop had to divide trash into eight different parts (combustible, non combustible, hard plastic, soft plastic, aluminum, other metals, hard cartons, and paper). They later divided again into sixteen parts to be separately carried out of the Jamboree site.
During our tours to villages, cities, and parks, we were able to see different kind of recycling bins.
We will follow our Outdoors University collaborator Soraya Gonzalez Sherwin during her ninth year participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day. She joined this movement in 2009 because she felt a strong connection to its purpose right after she received negative breast cancer results from a needle biopsy and MRI.
“Next weekend I need to walk 17 miles on Saturday 10/14 and 13 miles on Sunday 10/15. If anybody in San Diego is interested in joining me, please message me. I will be leaving from my house on both days. Saturday, I’ll go to La Jolla Shores via Torrey Pines. On Sunday, I will go towards Cardiff via Del Mar.”
